Jie’s research interests cover species interaction and insect physiology. She is using fruit flies and their natural enemies, parasitoids, to study the non-reproductive effect of a seemingly failed parasitism. She explores whether parasitoids gain hidden benefits from attacking unsuitable, even forbidden, hosts with few or none viable offspring, and how this effect alter intra- and inter-specific competition among the hosts. This work will offer insights into species coexistence as well as why the costly misplacement of eggs could widely sustain in host-parasitoid networks. She is also leading a small group of undergraduate students to review the impact of temperature fluctuation and anomaly on insects’ overwintering capability.
Jie obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at JiLin University (吉林大学). She enjoys singing, badminton and mahjong in her spare time.
